20 Free Things to Do During the Summer in Paris | WhyRoamTravel.com

1. See some of the world’s greatest artwork
On the first Sunday of every month, museums are free. This is a great way to see some of the world’s greatest artwork at the Louvre Museum or Musée d’Orsay. I suggest going early before the doors open to stake your place in line. If you wait around and go a little later, you’ll waste half your day waiting in line to get in as these museums are always very crowded. Stop by your favorite boulangerie, pick up a pain au chocolat (click here to see where you can find the best pain au chocolat) to enjoy while you wait, and hustle to get in line at least 30 minutes before the museum doors open. You’ll be glad you did.

Bruges is a charming, medieval town in Belgium.  With few cars in transit, narrow cobblestone streets, horse drawn carriages and picturesque canals, you’ll think you’ve stepped back into another time.

The fairy-tale town is mysteriously medieval, yet lovely and romantic.  It’s easy to explore by foot, and is home to some of the best chocolatiers in the world.

If you’re planning to visit Belgium, I highly recommend you plan to stop in Bruges. You won’t regret it. Guaranteed.

Top 10 Things to Do, See & Eat When Visiting Brussels + A Magazine Feature

February 10, 2015 By Andrea

Top 10 Things to Do, See & Eat When Visiting Brussels | whyroamtravel.com

Brussels, the capital city of Belgium, is centrally located. It’s two hours or less away by train from a handful of other major cities like Paris, Amsterdam, London and Cologne, just to name a few. This makes Brussels a perfect hub and stopover city when traveling around Europe.

Brussels offers plenty to see and do, but even if it’s not your destination city when traveling and you only have a short time, you can still get a good taste of the city – both figuratively and literally.  And by literally, I’m referring to Belgian chocolate, waffles, fries and beer.  Yum!

If you’re planning a trip to Belgium, be sure to check out my list in the Insiders Abroad E-Magazine for the top 10 things to do, see and eat when visiting Brussels.

To check out the top 10 things to do in Brussels, jump to page 26. Just click on the magazine cover below.

25 Years After the Fall of Communism in Eastern Europe

November 10, 2014 By Andrea

The John Lennon Wall in Prague | whyroamtravel.com

This year marks 25 years since the fall of communism in Eastern Europe.

Yesterday, November 9th, marked the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Next month will mark 25 years since the end of the communist government in the Czech Republic, which was then known as Czechoslovakia.

Most are familiar with the title “The Cold War”.  Most younger Americans hear about it in school.  It has something to do with the Soviet Union, and trickles down into why the United States is still in a heated arm wrestling match with Russia.  Both firmly planted, neither wanting to bend and a lot of trash talking in an attempt to psych out the opposing side.

I would bet most are also familiar with the Berlin Wall.

It was a wall in Germany.  It came down.
