March 19, 2015 By Andrea

Things to Do in Bruges | WhyRoamTravel.com

Bruges is a charming, medieval town in Belgium.  With few cars in transit, narrow cobblestone streets, horse drawn carriages and picturesque canals, you’ll think you’ve stepped back into another time.

The fairy-tale town is mysteriously medieval, yet lovely and romantic.  It’s easy to explore by foot, and is home to some of the best chocolatiers in the world.

If you’re planning to visit Belgium, I highly recommend you plan to stop in Bruges. You won’t regret it. Guaranteed.

Here are my top 12 tips for things to do in Bruges.

Top 10 Things to Do, See & Eat When Visiting Brussels + A Magazine Feature

Top 10 Things to Do, See & Eat When Visiting Brussels | whyroamtravel.com

Brussels, the capital city of Belgium, is centrally located. It’s two hours or less away by train from a handful of other major cities like Paris, Amsterdam, London and Cologne, just to name a few. This makes Brussels a perfect hub and stopover city when traveling around Europe.

Brussels offers plenty to see and do, but even if it’s not your destination city when traveling and you only have a short time, you can still get a good taste of the city – both figuratively and literally.  And by literally, I’m referring to Belgian chocolate, waffles, fries and beer.  Yum!

If you’re planning a trip to Belgium, be sure to check out my list in the Insiders Abroad E-Magazine for the top 10 things to do, see and eat when visiting Brussels.

Belgian Waffles: Brussels vs. Liege

Belgian Waffles: Brussels vs. Liege | WhyRoamTravel.com

Did you know there are two different kinds of waffles made in Belgium? Me either!  When I arrived in Belgium I knew I was planning to eat my share of waffles while I was here, but I had no idea there would be so many choices to choose from.

You can choose to have your waffle topped with powdered sugar or brown sugar, topped with jam, topped with a variety of fruit compotes, topped with fresh berries, topped with whipped cream, drizzled with melted chocolate or caramel, with or without a scoop of ice cream … the list goes on.  You can even opt for a mix of 2 or 3 different toppings together.  Your choices are just about endless.
